Controls tested: AI-CTRL-029 Training and Fine-Tuning Data Integrity (14 cases), AI-CTRL-016 Least Privilege and Scoped Credentials (5 cases), AI-CTRL-015 Human and Agent Identity (4 cases), AI-CTRL-013 Privacy and Regulatory Compliance (3 cases), AI-CTRL-017 Data Protection in AI Pipelines (2 cases), AI-CTRL-030 ML Pipeline and Model Registry Security (2 cases), AI-CTRL-008 Auditability (1 case), AI-CTRL-014 Third-Party and Vendor AI Assurance (1 case), AI-CTRL-028 Model Protection (1 case), AI-CTRL-031 AI Supply Chain and AI-BOM (1 case), AI-CTRL-032 AI Infrastructure Hardening (1 case), AI-CTRL-034 Adversarial Testing and Continuous Evaluation (1 case), AI-CTRL-036 AI Cost and Abuse Controls (1 case), AI-CTRL-046 Intellectual Property and Copyright Governance (1 case)

Cases: 26 (TC-L13-001 to TC-L13-026)

Safety boundary. Retrieval, model, training, pipeline and supply chain cases use fabricated corpora and datasets, small lab models, mock hubs and indexes and harmless marker artefacts only (an EICAR-style file that writes a marker, never real malware). Never load untrusted model files outside an isolated sandbox, and never connect the lab to production knowledge sources, models, pipelines, registries or credentials. Cases marked Attestation rest on vendor documents and score below demonstrated evidence.

Verify before use. MITRE ATLAS, OWASP LLM and NIST AI RMF identifiers must be checked against the current published versions. Numeric thresholds are starting values to tune. See the Reference Index for field definitions and applicability codes.

NIST AI RMF Mapping MAP 1.1; GOVERN 6.1
Control(s) Tested AI-CTRL-029 Training and Fine-Tuning Data Integrity

Risk Addressed. Datasets copied for experiments and fine-tuning are rarely registered, so nobody knows what data shaped a model.

Business Scenario. Data and model owners want every dataset used for training or tuning registered with source, owner, sensitivity and consuming models.

Technical Scenario. Create a known set of datasets across storage locations and compare the platform's inventory with ground truth.

Preconditions. Isolated PoC lab provisioned; lab training environment, fabricated datasets, small open-weight model, mock registry and test users seeded per the Lab Prerequisites appendix; platform connected with least-privilege test credentials. Lab training environment with fabricated datasets, a small open-weight model for fine-tuning, harmless trigger phrases, registered canary strings, a mock model registry and test users; no production data or production training pipelines connected.

Test Data. 8 datasets: 3 in object storage, 2 in a notebook workspace, 1 on a shared drive, 1 in a repository, 1 in a managed fine-tuning service; sizes from 100 rows to 100,000 rows; varied sensitivity.

Procedure

  1. Record ground truth: location, owner, sensitivity, consuming training jobs.
  2. Create the datasets and run 4 training or tuning jobs consuming them.
  3. Run discovery.
  4. Compare inventory with ground truth.
  5. Check job-to-dataset-to-model links.
  6. Add a dataset and measure detection delay.

Edge Cases / Variants. Dataset copied between locations; dataset assembled from several sources.

Expected Detection. At least 7 of 8 datasets found; owner and sensitivity correct for at least 6; at least 3 of 4 job links correct; new dataset detected within the stated interval.

Expected Prevention / Control Action. N/A (discovery).

Expected Alert / Log. Log entry with timestamp, user or application identity, device or host, destination, policy or rule matched, action taken and classification, within the vendor's documented SLA.

Expected Report / Dashboard Evidence. Finding or decision visible in the training and data supply chain dashboard within the documented refresh interval.

Expected Integration Evidence. Inventory exportable to the data catalogue and model registry.

Forensic Evidence. Dataset or checkpoint identifier, hash, source, training job, operator, decision and timestamp exportable for incident reconstruction.

Compliance Evidence. Test execution log and captured evidence retained in the Test Case Execution Register for audit.

Scoring Criteria. 0 = not demonstrated; 3 = detected or enforced but one or more attribution or evidence fields missing, or SLA exceeded; 5 = fully met with complete evidence; N/A = architecture out of scope.

Pass Criteria. Expected Detection are met in full within the vendor's documented SLA, and the evidence listed under Evidence to Capture is obtained from the live PoC.

Fail Criteria. Any seeded item is missed, the control action does not occur where required, SLA is exceeded, attribution fields are missing, or the result can only be reproduced with vendor-supplied data.

Evidence to Capture. Inventory vs ground truth; link accuracy.

Reviewer Notes. Confirm evidence comes from the live PoC environment, not vendor-supplied demo data. Record the build and policy version tested.

Control(s) Tested AI-CTRL-016 Least Privilege and Scoped Credentials

Risk Addressed. Credentials that outlive the job they were issued for can be replayed against datasets and the registry long after training ends.

Business Scenario. Security wants a training job's credentials to stop working when the job completes, fails or is cancelled.

Technical Scenario. Capture a credential from each of three lab jobs during the run and replay it after the job ends.

Preconditions. Isolated PoC lab provisioned; lab training environment, fabricated datasets, small open-weight model, mock registry and test users seeded per the Lab Prerequisites appendix; platform connected with least-privilege test credentials. Lab training environment with fabricated datasets, a small open-weight model for fine-tuning, harmless trigger phrases, registered canary strings, a mock model registry and test users; no production data or production training pipelines connected.

NIST AI RMF Mapping MEASURE 2.7; MANAGE 2.3
Control(s) Tested AI-CTRL-015 Human and Agent Identity; AI-CTRL-016 Least Privilege and Scoped Credentials

Risk Addressed. One person who can start a job, approve its data and promote its model can put anything into production unseen.

Business Scenario. Governance wants the roles in a training environment separated, and administrator access granted only for a set time.

Preconditions. Isolated PoC lab provisioned; lab training environment, fabricated datasets, small open-weight model, mock registry and test users seeded per the Lab Prerequisites appendix; platform connected with least-privilege test credentials. Lab training environment with fabricated datasets, a small open-weight model for fine-tuning, harmless trigger phrases, registered canary strings, a mock model registry and test users; no production data or production training pipelines connected.

Test Data. 5 test users: data scientist, ML engineer, data owner, platform administrator and contractor; a matrix of 8 actions (start a job, read raw data, change training code, approve a dataset, promote a model, read checkpoints, change a job's identity, delete a run record).

Procedure

  1. Record the expected outcome for each of the 40 combinations.
  2. Attempt each action as each user.
  3. Have the user who started a job try to approve its dataset and promote its model.
  4. Request administrator access for one hour and check that it ends.
  5. Let the contractor's access reach its expiry date.
  6. Check that each denied attempt is logged.

Edge Cases / Variants. A user holding two roles; an action performed through the API instead of the console.

Expected Detection. All 40 outcomes match the matrix; the person who starts a job cannot approve its dataset or promote its model; administrator access is time-bound and logged; the contractor's access ends on its expiry date.

Expected Prevention / Control Action. Allow or deny.

Expected Alert / Log. Log entry with timestamp, user or application identity, device or host, destination, policy or rule matched, action taken and classification, within the vendor's documented SLA.

OWASP LLM / GenAI Mapping N/A
NIST AI RMF Mapping MEASURE 2.4; MANAGE 4.1
Control(s) Tested AI-CTRL-015 Human and Agent Identity; AI-CTRL-008 Auditability

Risk Addressed. A run record that does not say who started a job, and as what, cannot support an investigation into a poisoned or leaking model.

Business Scenario. Audit wants every training run tied to the person or scheduler that started it and to the identity it ran as.

Technical Scenario. Start runs in three different ways and inspect the records.

Preconditions. Isolated PoC lab provisioned; lab training environment, fabricated datasets, small open-weight model, mock registry and test users seeded per the Lab Prerequisites appendix; platform connected with least-privilege test credentials. Lab training environment with fabricated datasets, a small open-weight model for fine-tuning, harmless trigger phrases, registered canary strings, a mock model registry and test users; no production data or production training pipelines connected.

Procedure

  1. Start the 6 runs.
  2. Export the run records.
  3. Check that each record names who or what started the run.
  4. Check that each record names the workload identity, the datasets read and the model written.
  5. Check that the pipeline run records both the pipeline and the user it acted for.
  6. Attempt to edit a run record as the person who started the run.

Edge Cases / Variants. A run restarted by an administrator; a run started through an API token.

Expected Detection. Every run record names the initiating person or scheduler, the workload identity, the datasets read and the model written; the pipeline run records both identities; the initiator cannot edit the record.

Expected Prevention / Control Action. N/A.
